Aussie now faces Novak Djokovic in the last eight

Alex de Minaur has fought off a determined comeback from Arthur Fils to win his way through to the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time.

The 24-year-old Australian, who is now No 6 in the live world rankings, dropped the third set but recovered to win 6-2 6-4 4-6 6-3.

De Minaur will now face seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

The Serbian 24-time grand slam winner beat Tim van Rijthoven of the Netherlands 6-3 4-6 6-1 6-4.

De Minaur said he was "proud" of his performance against Fils, who is 10 years his junior.

"I knew it was going to be a tough match," De Minaur said.

"He's a great player and he's going to be a future star. I'm just happy I was able to get through in the end."

De Minaur is the last Australian man standing in the singles draw at Wimbledon.

He will be hoping to reach the semi-finals for the first time when he takes on Djokovic on Wednesday.
